So I've been hanging out in London with Andrew for the past two days, eating scones, patronising ancient pubs, and generally playing the tourist. Went to see two exhibitions at the British Museum - the Chinese terracota warriors who have been imported from Xian for a temporary exhibit (only some, clearly, not all 7 000), and a show about Japanese design that focused on how traditional techniques are being reintroduced by modern artisans. Andrew liked the warriors better. I liked the nifty kimono dying techniques. For once I was gender congruent. I kept thinking sarcasm-hime would have had a ball.
The fact that I've left TO hasn't entirely penetrated yet, except for brief flashes during which I'm either a) wildly excited about starting a new life or b) thinking that I'd like to share a particular observation with someone back home and then realizing I won't be seeing that person anytime soon, and by the time I do, the observation will have been long forgotten.
Not sure what to make of it, emotionally.
Speaking of observations, BA has introduced touch-screen Monitors in front of every seat that allow passangers to pick any one of about 40 movies, plus countless TV shows, etc. You can also stop and start and rewind the movies anytime you wish. It almost makes up for the progressive narrowing of seats - it seems like every time I fly, a couple of inches have been taken off. Or maybe I'm just getting bigger.
Andrew's starting his new job Monday, and expects to be working insane hours this week (he had last week off), so I'm thinking I will likely take off for the coast, maybe, Monday to Thursday. London's great, but I don't want city at the moment. I want open sky, rugged coastline, and sheep. I need to work on my book. I'm thinking the south-west coast thus far, but that might change.
